About Us

Secure Living Online was co-founded by Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall, Jr. and Chief Instructor Eric Stalloch.  What makes SecureLivingOnline’s instructional approach so effective?  It’s the unique combination of their educational backgrounds, professional martial arts careers, and experience.

Educators.  Teaching self-defense and performing self-defense are very different skills.  You should learn any new skill from a qualified, experienced instructor.  Clifford C. Crandall, Jr. and Eric Stalloch are experienced educators.  Mr. Crandall is a retired teacher, elementary and high school principal, and superintendent of schools.  He has also taught at colleges.  His experience at all levels of education gives him the skill to design and present effective self-defense programs.  Mr. Stalloch is a practicing, permanently certified teacher.  He is actively involved with a Syracuse University study of effective teaching methods and practices.  His experience has enabled him to develop programs and teach self-defense to students of all ages.

Martial Artists.  Their experience as professional martial artists has helped to make them leaders in promoting self-defense instruction around the world.  Grandmaster Crandall is the head and founder of the American Martial Arts Institute, which teaches American Eagle Style.  He is also Headmaster for the world of the Takenouchi-Hangan-Ryu-Matsuno-Crandall school of Iaido, a 300-year old samurai sword style currently in its seventh generation.  Grandmaster Crandall’s experience spans more than 45 years.  Mr. Stalloch has been training under Grandmaster Crandall for more than 20 years.  He is a chief instructor and proprietor of a full-time training location of the American Martial Arts Institute.

Clifford C. Crandall, Jr.

Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall, Jr. has taught self-defense to men, women, and children of all ages for over 35 years.  His safety awareness programs and contributions to the field of martial arts are recognized internationally.  He is the head and founder of the American Martial Arts Institute, which teaches American Eagle Style.

Grandmaster Crandall has authored three books and produced seven instructional videos.  One of these videos is Children’s Self-Defense and Awareness, Volume 1, a self-contained program of non-aggressive self-defense techniques for educating school children.

He has taught elementary through high school children self-defense with his Just Get Away program, presented his Women’s Self-Defense seminars for rape crisis centers, universities, and other private organizations, instructed college credit courses on self-defense, instructed and certified physical education teachers to implement a K-12 self-defense curriculum to meet state required safety standards, and designed safety programs for senior citizens.

Grandmaster Crandall produced and hosted the Martial Arts Today Show for twelve years, which aired on NBC to over eight million homes in the U.S. and Canada. For over twenty years, he has raised public awareness regarding safety with his Secure Living television public service announcements, by serving as the Central New York spokesperson for McDonald’s in safety commercials, and with his television show Safety and Awareness Today that presented self-defense and safety topics for all ages on ABC, Fox, and MyTV.

In 1994, Grandmaster Crandall coached and led the first American martial arts team to perform in the People’s Republic of China, with letters of introduction from the President and Vice President of the United States at that time. He has also led similar delegations promoting good international relations to other countries including Russia, Japan, Australia, and Italy.
In 2000, he was inducted into the International Hall of Fame for contribution to the martial arts by a Grandmaster. He also holds a Guinness Book World Record for breaking a board while skydiving, a feat performed in conjunction with a child safety awareness campaign. The Crandall System has been taught successfully for many years in private and public schools and community organizations.

These are only a few of his contributions to safety and awareness education during his over 45 years as a martial artist and educator. For more information about Grandmaster Clifford C. Crandall, Jr., visit www.amai-eaglestyle.com.
